Brandon, MB Aug 9-11 – Canadian Professionals (Click for Info Sheet)

At Canadian Professional Goalie Schools we focus on all aspects of goaltending from skating and movement, to save selections and the mental side of the game.

Our mission is to teach goalies Passion for the game, Education for the position and Excellence in execution.

Instructors:  All CPGS summer camps are instructed by Toronto Maple Leafs NHL goalie coach Steve Briere or a member of his highly trained staff.  The Brandon, Manitoba camp is led by current NHL goalie coach, Steve Briere, and NAHL goalie coach Josh Aycock. Steve is in his 4th season with the Leafs, and has extensive coaching experience, including a Level 4 USA Hockey certification. Josh is a Level 3 USA Hockey Certified coach, and in his 4th year with the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL.

Coaching Style: CPGS believes in the philosophy of situational goaltending, meaning that there are many different ways to stop the puck depending on the individual situation. Goaltenders are built differently, think differently and react differently. As a result of this, each goaltender will play each situation differently. At CPGS we build a solid foundation that allows us to teach goaltenders the various ways to apply the save selections in differing situations. The CPGS style has enabled our instructors to teach goaltenders of all levels no matter what size, age, gender, or caliber.

Camp Outline:  Each camp consists of on-ice skating & technique development, off-ice training, video analysis, and classroom instruction. The Brandon camp will run from 9 am – 3 pm. The Brandon goalie camp will be run in conjunction with Canadian Professional Hockey’s player skills development camp.

Our aim is to ensure that each goaltender who attends our camp has an enjoyable experience and receives quality tutoring in all aspects of netminding. The drills are designed based on the individual assessment performed at the beginning of the camp.

On-Ice: There will be 3 hours per day of on-ice training, depending on the number of camp attendees. Ice time may be divided into two sessions or as one single session.

Off-Ice: There will be approximately 1 hour of dry land and athleticism training per day. The goalies will learn a variety of stretches, plyometrics and a number of goaltender-specific reactionary drills.

Video: There will be approximately 1 hour of video/classroom per day, using Dartfish Video Analysis, YouTube, and NHL video.  All classroom sessions will be goalie-specific, educational, instructional, and motivational.

Who Is Our Camp For?

We provide programs for Beginners, Intermediate & Advanced goalies of all ages. CPGS aims to offer quality instruction to students at all levels, whether they are just starting out, or already at AAA/High School level.

Three basic levels of instruction:

Level 1: Aimed at goalies who are just starting out up to those who have been playing for a couple of years. Goalies will be taught basic drills and given the skills required to help them progress to the next level. It will help the goalie recognize the types of save which are appropriate to each situation, with emphasis on the actual save.

Level 2: This level is for goalies who have been playing for a couple of years, who are preparing themselves to make the breakthrough to the top ranks. It will go into more depth and technical detail.

Level 3: This is aimed at top level goalies, for example AAA/Junior/High School, who are trying to perfect their position and technique. This level will deal with such aspects as pre and post save positioning in depth, and look at the position from many angles.

My son and I were very pleased with this camp. It was very professionally ran. I would recommend this camp to any young goaltender. Steve is a professional both on and off the ice. Thanks to him and his staff for a great experience.I wish you all the best and hope to attend another camp in the future.

I took my son to 3 goalie camps last summer and this is BY FAR THEE BEST CAMP. This program was held in Brandon and we did the 3 day weekend session. was awesome, ratio of instructor to student was 3-1 perfect. my son took alot away from this and had a awesome time. we stayed in brandon the another camp right after this one and it was a total disaster. basically expensive daycare.
Steve really knows how a camp should run and I will be putting my son in this camp again this summer…..we may do the brandon AND winnipeg camps this summer.
